This page states our genuine commitments and current practice as plainly as we can. It hasn't been reviewed by a South African attorney, and formal steps like Information Officer registration are still in progress rather than complete.

Gelezanathi processes personal information — including learner information — on behalf of South African schools, and we're building our data handling around the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) from the ground up, not retrofitting it after the fact.
POPIA sets rules for how organisations collect, use, store, and share personal information in South Africa, and gives individuals specific rights over their own information. As a platform processing school and learner data, we take our obligations under it seriously.
We process personal information to perform our agreement with your school (providing the assessment and analytics platform you've signed up for), and on the basis of the consent your school has obtained from parents or guardians as part of its own enrolment process.
Under POPIA, individuals generally have the right to know what information is held about them, to request access to it, to request correction of inaccurate information, and to request its deletion. Because Gelezanathi processes learner data on behalf of schools, most requests should go through your school in the first instance — see our Privacy Policy for how we handle export and deletion requests directly.
Our Information Officer can be contacted at privacy@gelezanathi.co.za for any POPIA-related query. As an early-stage company, we're actively formalising this role, including registration with the Information Regulator — we'd rather say that plainly than claim a status we haven't reached yet.
A large share of the information Gelezanathi processes belongs to minors. We rely on schools to obtain appropriate consent from parents or guardians under their own policies, and we apply the same security and access controls described on our Security page to learner data as to any other personal information on the platform.
If a school, parent, or individual believes we haven't handled personal information appropriately, we'd like the chance to resolve it directly first — contact privacy@gelezanathi.co.za. Individuals also have the right to lodge a complaint with South Africa's Information Regulator.
Some infrastructure we use to run Gelezanathi may process data outside South Africa. Where that's the case, we take reasonable steps toward a level of protection consistent with POPIA, and we're glad to discuss the specifics with any school that asks.
We're an early-stage platform. This page reflects our genuine commitments and current practice, not a completed, independently audited compliance program. We'd rather be transparent about that than overstate our position.
